Akemi Suzuki 鈴木明美

Akemi Suzuki, crafting under the name Mei Pota, creates hand-built ceramics that elegantly balance playfulness and sophistication. Based in Nara Prefecture, she works primarily with red clay and utilizes white slip-painting (白化粧) followed by carbon-firing to achieve a chic, subtly rustic finish.

In imaginative works such as the "road" coffee cup, she paints miniature scenes— a bus driving down a road lined with houses, bicycles, and animals— wrapping a charming narrative around the vessel. The forms are slightly asymmetrical, highlighting hand-built authenticity.

Akemi' s work philosophy revolves around crafting joy in everyday life. Each piece, gently uneven and lovingly textured, feels like a small gift meant to uplift the daily ritual of tea, coffee, or meal time. According to her Instagram, "I hand-build each vessel hoping to bring just a little more fun into everyday life"

Her thoughtful slip patterns, warm clay tones, and whimsical narrative forms make Akemi Suzuki's ceramics delightful companions for everyday use.
