Kumiko Ishikawa 石川久美子
Japanese ceramic artist Kumiko Ishikawa currently lives and works in Hakodate, Hokkaido. She began creating ceramics in 1997 and established her own pottery studio, Studio Claynote, in 2010.
Like many female ceramic artists, Kumiko Ishikawa draws inspiration from botanical motifs, particularly flowers and plants. However, she distinguishes her work by incorporating geometric forms, deconstructing natural elements into patterns that are uniquely her own. Her signature use of vibrant yellow further enhances the visual impact of each piece. She also favors warm-toned clay with a soft, gentle texture, giving her ceramics a comforting warmth that can be felt both in daily use and in quiet appreciation. These are pieces designed to accompany everyday life.
